Will Canada invite PM Modi to G7 next year? Justin Trudeau gave this answer

Apulia (Italy):

Canada will chair next year’s G7 summit. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said he will have a lot to say then. Speaking to reporters, he praised Canadians’ eagerness towards the G7 summit. Trudeau said he looks forward to working with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and all G7 partners on a range of issues. He has discussed various issues with the leaders.

Asked if Canada would invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the 2025 G7 summit, Trudeau replied, “I can appreciate that Canadians are looking forward to next year’s G7, however, Italy will chair the G7 for the rest of this year.” I look forward to working with Prime Minister Maloney and all my G7 partners on what we discussed ahead of “I will have a lot to say about the G7 when we take over the presidency of the G7 this year.”

This time the G-7 summit was held in the Apulia region of Italy from June 13 to 15. In which India was invited as an ‘outreach country’. Seven member countries, the United States, Britain, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan and France, as well as the European Union, also participated in it.

Canada will chair the next conference
The next summit of G7 leaders will be held in Kannakis, Alberta, Canada in 2025. In a post on X, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau said, “Just announced: the next G7 Leaders’ Summit will be held here in Canada, in Kananaskis, Alberta, in 2025.”

Trudeau’s statement came after he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the G7 summit in Apulia, Italy on Friday. This was the first meeting between the two leaders amid strained diplomatic relations between India and Canada.

“Meet Canadian PM Justin Trudeau at G7 Summit,” PM Modi said in a post on Twitter.

Relations strained after the killing of terrorist Nijjar
Last year, Trudeau accused “agents of the Indian government” of killing terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada. After this, relations between the two countries became strained. However, India has rejected the allegations and called them “absurd” and “motivated”.

Hardeep Singh Nijjar was declared a terrorist by India’s National Investigation Agency in 2020. He was shot dead outside a gurudwara in Surrey in June last year.

India has said that Canada has not provided any “conclusive” evidence or accurate information in the Hardeep Singh Nijjar murder case. Earlier in May, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar denied finding any evidence to establish the involvement of Indian nationals in the killing of terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada.
