Will Mahmoud Ahmadinejad be the President of Iran again? Controversy happened with Khamenei, know why

The Guardian Council also barred him from contesting the 2017 elections. A year earlier, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that contesting the election was neither in his own interest nor in the interest of the country. During his rule, Ahmadinejad advocated curbing the authority of Khamenei, who had the final say in every decision in Iran. After this, there was a rift between the two and due to this, Khamenei prevented Ahmadinejad from contesting the 2017 elections. In 2018, in one of Khamenei’s biggest and rarest criticisms of Iran, Ahmadinejad wrote to him calling for free elections.

Khamenei supported Ahmadinejad when protests erupted after he was re-elected in 2009. Dozens of people were killed and hundreds arrested in these protests. Before the protests could threaten Iran’s ruling religious forces, security forces led by the elite Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) quelled the unrest.
