India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral cricket series for a long time. The two teams now only face each other in multinational tournaments. India has not toured Pakistan since 2008. Hockley has expressed his desire to host a bilateral series between arch-rivals India and Pakistan on Australian soil. Hockley also hinted at the possibility of a triangular series arrangement. “Pakistan and India are traditional rival teams. There is a lot of excitement about the match between the two teams,” Hockley said. Although no formal talks have begun, Hockley said Cricket Australia could support such an initiative.
He said, “As far as providing facilities or assistance for this is concerned, we are very open-hearted. However, the final decision has to be taken by the cricket boards of India and Pakistan.” Hockley said, “Looking at the schedule, we have not had any formal discussions in this regard. But we have said publicly that we would be happy to host an India vs Pakistan bilateral series.” India-Pakistan political relations have not been anything special, affecting things outside of cricket as well.
The Melbourne Cricket Club and the Victorian government have also expressed interest in hosting a match between India and Pakistan. t20 World Cup In 2022, a match between India and Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) was witnessed by a large number of spectators at the stadium. The spectator capacity of this ground is about one lakh. A match between India and Pakistan was recently played in New York during the T20 World Cup 2024. Here too the stadium was full.
