Zohra Sehgal was born on 27 April 1912 in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, into a Pathan family. She belonged to the kingdom of Rampur. Zohra Sehgal’s full name was Sahibzadi Zohra Mumtaz Ullah Khan. It is said that Zohra Sehgal studied at Queen Mary’s College, Lahore and was a topper in school, but failed thrice in tenth. However, the reason for his failure was not his studies but his marriage. Between 1935 and 1940, when he became part of a dance academy, he met Kameshwar Sahgal, a scientific painter and dancer from Indore, who was a Hindu and eight years his junior. After the death of her husband in 1959, Johar moved to Delhi.
