World champion captain Kapil Dev got big responsibility, made PGTI president

New Delhi. Kapil Dev, the world-winning captain of the Indian cricket team, is going to start a new innings. The veteran, who captained India’s 1983 World Cup winning team, has taken over as the new president of the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI). The post is a fresh start for the iconic former cricketer, who has also excelled as an amateur golfer.

Kapil, 65, was already a member of the PGTI board as vice-president. He was unanimously elected. He will replace HR Srinivasan whose term has expired. Kapil is known as a good golf player. Kapil said about his new post, “It is an honor for me to be the President of PGTI. I have been associated with this organization for the past few years. This is a players association and I am a very good friend of all of them and I often play with them.

Kapil said that golf has been his passion for more than three decades. The former cricketer said he dreamed of representing India in the Asian Games when only amateur players were allowed to participate. He said, “And now that’s the game I spend most of my time in. I’ve been vice president and I’m on the board, so I’m very proud to be elected president by the players. I promise to do my best as always.

Kapil has been at the forefront of trying to bring in new sponsors for PGTI. Kapil Dev’s brilliant cricket career

Kapil played cricket for India from 1978 to 1994. One of the greatest all-rounders of all time, Kapil played 131 Tests and 225 ODIs. India won the 1983 World Cup under his leadership. His unbeaten innings of 175 in the 1983 World Cup is considered one of the greatest innings in the history of the game. In Test cricket, he scored 5248 runs with eight centuries and took 434 wickets, which was a world record at the time. He scored 3783 runs in ODI matches in this format and also took 253 wickets.
