On the ninth day of the winter session of Parliament, there was a big uproar over the lapse in Parliament’s security on Thursday. Opposition leaders raised slogans in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha houses. The proceedings of the House had to be adjourned several times during the day due to the uproar. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has suspended 13 MPs from opposition parties for the entire session for creating ruckus despite repeated warnings. At the same time, TMC Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien was also suspended for the rest of the session. A total of 14 MPs have been suspended. Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party leaders have sought time to meet the President on December 13 regarding the security lapse in Parliament.

Lok Sabha proceedings started at 11 am on Thursday. As soon as Speaker Om Birla reached the house, the opposition MPs started a ruckus over the security of the Parliament. He demanded the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah. Om Birla asked all the MPs to maintain peace. He assured everyone that as Speaker of the Lok Sabha, it is his responsibility to ensure everyone’s safety.

Despite repeated warnings from the Speaker, opposition MPs continued the uproar. After this, Speaker Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi proposed to suspend the rioting MPs. After which the Speaker suspended 13 MPs for the rest of the session.

Of the 13 MPs suspended from the Lok Sabha, 9 are from the Congress, 2 from the CPI, 1 from the CPI and 2 from the DMK. While Rajya Sabha Trinamool Congress MP Derek O Brien has also been suspended for the rest of the session.

Earlier it was reported that 14 MPs have been suspended from the Lok Sabha. The opposition said DMK MP SR Parthiban, who was suspended from the Lok Sabha, did not come to Parliament on Thursday. However, he was suspended. The Lok Sabha Secretariat has issued a circular in this regard. DMK MP Parthiban’s name is not in the new circular.

Congress MPs Manikam Tagore, TN Prathapan, Hibi Eden, Jothimani, Ramya Haridas, Dean Kuriakoze, MD Javed, VK Srikandan, Benny Behnan, DMK MPs K Kanimozhi and SR Parthiban, CPM MPs PR Natarajan and S Venkatesan and CPI MP K Subara. have been suspended.

The suspended MPs include two each from CPI(M) and DMK and one leader from CPI. Meanwhile, TMC Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien was also suspended for the rest of the session. Derek came into the well shouting slogans, which angered Speaker Jagdeep Dhankhard.

Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien was asked to leave the house. After this the house was adjourned till 2 pm. Suspended member Derek was back in the House when proceedings resumed. The chairman said to Derek, ‘What are you doing? You are in breach of privilege. My head hangs in shame at your behavior. The Speaker adjourned the proceedings of the House till 3 o’clock.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has sought an appointment with the President. Opposition parties will also demand Amit Shah’s statement in both houses on this issue.

At the same time, the police produced the four accused who stormed the Parliament on December 13 before the Patiala House Court on Thursday. Along with this, the Parliament Secretariat has suspended 8 security personnel on Thursday due to security lapses.

Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi and Union Minister Anurag Thakur were present in this meeting. Security has been tightened inside and outside Parliament following the security breach. On Thursday, people entering Parliament were stripped of their shoes and searched.
