Some areas of Bahraich and Barabanki have received 250 mm of rain during the last 24 hours, a senior official said on Tuesday.
19 people died due to rain in the state on Monday. Due to the rains, the administration closed schools for one to two days in some districts. Schools reopened in the state capital on Tuesday with clear skies.
The Met Office has issued a ‘Red Alert’ of heavy rain for six districts – Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Sravasti, Sitapur, Barabanki and Gonda and an ‘Orange Alert’ for four districts – Hardoi, Lucknow, Siddharthnagar and Basti.
After the weather was clear in Gonda since morning, it started raining from 3.30 pm on Tuesday. Low-lying areas were flooded due to overnight rains. The district hospital premises are also flooded.
The Gonda district administration on Tuesday morning issued an order to keep all schools and colleges closed for today. District Disaster Specialist Rajesh Srivastav said that two buffaloes have died due to lightning in Tarabganj taluk of the district. According to him, apart from this, there is no information about any loss of life and property.
Several areas of the city became islands due to heavy rains in Barabanki district on Monday.
Officials said that the teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), which reached for relief and rescue, have so far evacuated 500 people from the waterlogged areas and relief materials are being distributed.
Commissioner of Ayodhya Division and Inspector General of Police visited the affected areas today.
Ayodhya Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Dayal told reporters after inspecting the affected areas, “More than 10 areas of the urban area have been submerged in rainwater. “12 boats of NDRF and SDRF are currently engaged in relief work in flood-affected areas and evacuating people.”
An official from the Relief Commissioner’s office said seven districts of the state have received more than 100 mm of rain and another 10 districts have received 50 mm of rain in the last 48 hours.
He said parts of two districts — Bahraich and Barabanki — received more than 250 mm of rain.
The official said that teams of the Municipal Corporation are working round the clock to deal with the waterlogging problem and make the areas free from rain water.
He said, “All embankments in the state are safe and there is no news of breach anywhere. “Irrigation department officials and staff are continuously monitoring the situation in various parts of the state.”
He said that currently no river is flowing above the danger mark but Sharda in Palia Kalan (Lakhimpur Kheri) is flowing around the danger mark.
According to the official, apart from this, rise in the water level of Ramganga river in Moradabad and Son river in Bansagar (Mirzapur) has been reported.
The official said teams of NDRF and SDRF have been deployed in the districts to deal with any disaster situation.
He said that along with the distribution of food packets and grains, tarpaulins and other essential items are being distributed in the districts and teams from the Medical Department and Animal Husbandry Department have also been deployed.
Assuring that everything is under control, the official said that the State Emergency Operation Center at the Relief Commissioner’s office is functioning 24 hours and a toll-free number has also been issued for the general public.
The official said that funds have already been allocated to districts for relief work.
