Election of President of Wrestling Federation of India: The election for the post of the president of Indian Wrestling Federation is going to be held today i.e. on 21st December and the result will be announced today. Two people, including a woman, have entered the election field. Chandauli resident Sanjay Singh (Wrestling Federation of India) has contested. Let us tell you that Sanjay Singh is considered close to Brijbhushan Sharan Singh. At the same time, Commonwealth Games gold medalist Anita Sheoran has also contested. Apart from the top posts, elections will be held today to fill the posts of one senior vice president, four vice presidents, one general secretary, one treasurer, two joint secretaries and five executive members. Interestingly, one of the candidates for the post of Vice President is the newly appointed Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and former wrestler Mohan Yadav. Today’s election will give the wrestling association a new president after Brijbhushan Sharan Singh held the top post for 12 years. The BJP MP from Kaisarganj had to step down when the country’s legendary women wrestlers protested accusing him of sexual harassment.

Veteran wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat, who spearheaded the movement, were promised that no family member or associate of Brij Bhushan Singh would be allowed to contest the elections. This is the reason why Brijbhushan’s son Prateek and son-in-law Vishal Singh have not entered the race, but their aide Sanjay Singh is going to try his luck in the election arena. Ms Sheoran, on the other hand, has the support of wrestlers who participated in the long-running protest against the WFI president.

Speaking to NDTV, Sanjay Singh and his colleagues said, “They have the support of most of the state wrestling associations and are confident of victory.” He further said, “The wrestling community knows who did it, for the good of the sport. Work and this will be kept in mind while casting the vote.” Apart from this, when Mr. Yadav was asked about contesting the election, he said, “It is a big message that a wrestler has become the Chief Minister of the state. I am sure he will be able to win here as well.”

Let us inform you that the process of WFI election started in July but it has been delayed due to court case. Because of this, the International Wrestling Federation suspended the WFI. The Supreme Court recently dismissed the stay imposed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, clearing the way for the elections.
