He said, “Today is a historic day for the country, as India got its new criminal justice laws today. Congratulations to all Indians on this proud moment. The three bills passed in Parliament today will replace the laws implemented by the British and will replace decades of indigenous justice system. An old dream will come true. Shah said, “Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resolve to walk with everyone, these laws will come into force. We will prioritize the safety of women and children while keeping the rights of citizens paramount. This new justice system of New India, empowered with state-of-the-art technologies, will work to provide transparent and speedy justice to the citizens.
He said these new laws would reinforce the Modi government’s policy of “zero tolerance” towards crime and terrorism. “For the first time, terrorism, organized crime and economic crime have been defined in our law, which will close all avenues for criminals to evade the law,” Shah said.
He said it was the first time in the country that there was a law that would try and punish fugitives in their absence. Shah said, “For the first time, an attempt will be made to reform the individual by making ‘community service’ a punishment for minor offences. This will revive the Indian philosophy of ‘punishment for justice’.” He said, “On this historic occasion, I would like to acknowledge the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji to make our country self-reliant. Away from the signs of slavery. I express my gratitude. Modi ji has freed the country’s criminal justice system from the shackles of slavery and these coming new laws are the soul, thought and body of all Indians. is
