America A mother shot and killed her six-year-old son at a hotel in Ohio. The mother accused of killing her son in this case was sentenced to life imprisonment on Monday. Danaicha Bringhatt, 31, of Parma, admitted murder and other charges. Cuyahoga County prosecutors dropped charges that could have resulted in the death penalty. Bringghat must serve at least 35 years in prison before being released on parole. Prosecutors and defense attorneys acknowledged that Bringhatt had a history of mental illness, including treatment for schizophrenia, although a court-ordered mental health evaluation found he could stand trial.

Authorities said Bringhat took her son Kamir to a Brooklyn hotel in April 2021 so he could swim in an indoor swimming pool, and while they were in the room, she shot her son 11 times. He said that the accused woman then called the police and said that an unknown person had come into the room and shot her son, however, she later admitted that she made this story up. Officials have not released a motive for the shooting.
“I certainly understand mental illness, but the fact of the matter is that a boy was murdered,” Cuyahoga County Assistant Prosecutor Anna Faraglia said during the sentencing hearing. The culprit should be punished for this.”
