Panic erupted at Germany’s Hamburg airport on Saturday night when a man entered a car and started firing bullets. Traffic at Hamburg Airport was closed, police said. Also, the terminal was evacuated after the hostage situation. Police said they believe a “custody dispute” may be behind the incident.

“At around 8pm (0600 GMT), a gunman drove his car through the security area onto the tarmac (the road adjacent to the airstrip), fired two shots into the air and fired two flaming rockets,” a police spokesman said. Bottles were thrown from the car.” At least two people, including a child, were traveling in the car, police said.
The spokeswoman said the wife of the man driving the car made an emergency call to alert police of their child’s abduction. Hamburg police said on Twitter, “We are on site with a large contingent of emergency services. We are currently using this as a stable hostage situation.”
The car was parked in the apron area of the airport. Police said later Saturday that they believed a “custody dispute was the background to this operation.” Police said that along with psychologists, officers specializing in communication are also at the scene and are in touch with the person in the car.
