Preliminary investigation revealed that three members of the first family were killed inside a house near Tripti Nagar in Udupi. Police sources said it appears a 12-year-old boy entered the room on hearing a noise and the assailants allegedly killed him so that no evidence would remain.

A girl who lives in the neighborhood told the police that she came out after seeing the commotion, but was threatened by the suspects. The bodies have been identified as 46-year-old Hasina and her 23-year-old son Afghani. There was a 21-year-old Aynaaz and a 12-year-old boy.

Haseena’s mother-in-law is under treatment in the hospital who was injured by a knife. Udupi Superintendent of Police Arun Kumar told reporters, “Four have been killed and one injured.
