Afghanistan’s star cricketer Rashid Khan has undergone minor back surgery in Britain and is expected to recover soon, according to the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB). Due to this surgery, Rashid Khan will not be able to participate in the Big Bash League (BBL) starting in December. Rashid plays for the Adelaide Strikers team in Australia’s franchise T20 League BBL. There is also suspense over whether Rashid will be able to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 or not.
BBL is scheduled to start from 7th December. A statement issued by the ACB on Friday said Rashid’s operation was performed by Britain’s top surgeon. Rashid was instrumental in Afghanistan’s victories against teams like England and Pakistan in the recently concluded World Cup in India.
“Afghanistan cricket sensation Rashid Khan underwent a minor back surgery under the guidance of renowned British surgeon Dr. James,” the ACB said in a statement on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter). He has been given some rest and is expected to recover soon. Fellow cricketer Mohammad Nabi posted a picture of Rashid after the surgery and wrote, ‘Get well soon King.’
On Thursday, Rashid’s Big Bash League team Adelaide Strikers announced that Rashid will soon undergo a minor operation. He has been playing for the Strikers since 2017. Rashid himself shared his post-surgery photo and wrote, ‘Thanks everyone for the wishes, surgery went well, now I’m on my way to recovery. Looking forward to getting back on the field.

The 25-year-old Rashid Khan has played five Tests, 103 ODIs and 82 T20 Internationals. He is a great player in T20 cricket. Rashid has played more than 400 T20 matches for various franchise teams and has taken more than 550 wickets and also scored more than 2000 runs. Rashid is part of Gujarat Titans franchise team in IPL. Whether he will play in IPL 2024 or not will be decided in the coming time.
