Akhila BS’ journey to UPSC was not easy. During this time he had to face many problems. Let us tell you that Akhila BS cleared the UPSC exam in 2023 with 760th rank in UPSC Civil Service Exam. She didn’t have one arm during the exam, but Akhila never considered herself different from others and prepared wholeheartedly for UPSC.

When I lost an arm in an accident

Akhila, the daughter of a former headmaster of a government high school, was a victim of a bus accident in 2000. She lost her right arm in this accident. The family was very saddened by this accident of their daughter. His family also spoke to medical experts in Germany, but the problem related to his hand could not be resolved. After which he accepted that he will have to live with only one hand for the rest of his life. When she recovered shortly after the accident, she persuaded herself and started doing her work with her left hand. Let us tell you that he also wrote the UPSC exam with his left hand.

Akhila was very good in studies during her school days. He cleared his 12th standard board exam with good grades. After completing his schooling, he pursued his graduation and later an integrated MA degree from IIT Madras. Let us tell you that, he had decided long ago that he will appear in the UPSC exam, for which he had already started his UPSC preparation.

Before preparing, he understood the complete UPSC exam syllabus well and then set a time table to study all the subjects. Let us tell you that he had to face defeat three times before getting success in the UPSC exam. In her first three UPSC attempts, she cleared the UPSC Prelims exam all three times, but could not clear the Mains exam.

Akhila said in an interview that she started preparing for UPSC in the year 2019 and appeared for the UPSC exam in 2020, 2021 and 2022. She managed to clear the prelims all three times, but failed the mains. In the year 2023, he finally succeeded in his fourth attempt.

Speaking on the challenges faced while preparing for the civil services exam, Akhila said that preparing for the exam involves a lot of hard work as well as many ups and downs, but this is a phase of your tough times, we know. It will pass.

Let us tell you that Akhila single-handedly started preparing for this exam and also appeared in the exam. That said, I found it very difficult to sit straight for long periods while preparing for the exam. Sitting continuously for three to four hours in the exam became a difficult task for me. The problem for me was writing for three-four hours. I will feel tired and my body will ache. I had to write continuously for three days for the main exam. It was a challenge for me, which I overcame with my hard work.
