After Allahabad and Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh (Government of Uttar Pradesh), preparations are now underway to rename Aligarh. A proposal to change the name of Aligarh to ‘Harigarh’ has been passed in the district panchayat board meeting. Its report has also been sent to the Yogi government. Giving information, Aligarh Mayor Prashant Singhal said that a proposal was presented to change the name of Aligarh to Harigarh in the meeting of Aligarh Municipal Corporation. All the councilors unanimously supported this proposal in the meeting. The proposal was tabled on the suggestion of Bharatiya Janata Party councilor Sanjay Pandit.

The demand to change the name of Aligarh is very old. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad passed a resolution in Aligarh in 2015 saying that the ancient name of Aligarh is Harigarh. It was later changed to Aligarh, so Aligarh should be changed to Harigarh. Anyway, this district and city have their own unique importance in the politics of the country and UP.

Recently, when Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reached Aligarh, he also addressed it as Harigarh. Since then there were speculations that the government might change the name soon. Now the expectation of passing the proposal from the municipality has increased.
The Yogi government changed the names of many districts
Even before this, the names of many districts have been changed in the Yogi government. In this order Allahabad was renamed to Prayagraj and Faizabad to Ayodhya in 2019. Along with this two railway stations have also been renamed, Mughalsarai railway station to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Junction and Jhansi railway station to Lakshmibai railway station in Veerang.
