Avesh Khan played the ODI series
Fast bowler Avesh Khan was part of Team India in the ODI series before the Tests on the current South Africa tour. Avesh played the match-winning bowler in the first ODI of the series. He took 4 wickets in his name. Shami was initially given a place in the Test squad but was also told that the decision to play him would be based on his fitness. BCCI’s medical team could not declare Shami fit. After which he was out of the Test series. Shami has been out of Team India since the ODI World Cup. He took the most wickets in World Cup 2023 with 24 wickets.
