In Asia Cup 2023, an exciting match was played between India and Bangladesh on Friday. India lost by 6 runs at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Bangladesh scored 265/8 in the allotted 50 overs. The duo played cautiously to take the Indian innings to a score of 235/7 by the 47th over. Both hit singles off the first four balls against Mehdi Hasan, who came to bowl the 48th over. Akshar took an aggressive approach on the remaining two balls. He hit the bowler for a four on the fifth ball and stood up on the sixth ball to hit a forward six with a straight bat.
India needed 17 runs from the last two overs. It looked like Akshar and Shardul would make a match-winning comeback but Mustafizur Rahman gave a double blow to hopes in the 49th over. Mustafizur bowled a low full toss on the first ball of the over and had Sardul caught by Miraj. Shardul scored 11 runs in 13 balls. He shared a 40-run partnership with Akshar for the eighth wicket. Mustafizur hunted Akshar off the fourth ball, who caught Tanzid while hitting a six over long off. Akshar scored 42 runs in 34 balls with the help of 3 fours and 2 sixes.
With Shardul and Akshar gone, the match slipped out of India’s hands like sand. Although Indian fans had a lot of expectations from Mohammed Shami but he could not show anything special. India needed 12 runs to win in the 50th over. Tanzim Hasan Shakib did not allow Shami to score a single run in the first three balls. Shami hit a four in the gap between long on and deep midwicket off the fourth ball. After this, he pushed the fifth ball towards deep backward square and raced to complete one. He was run out while trying to steal another run and ended the Indian innings. The famous Krishna returned to the pavilion unbeaten without opening an account. This is India’s first defeat in Asia Cup 2023. India will now face Sri Lanka in the final on Sunday.
