After Pakistan’s dismal performance in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, Babar Azam’s captaincy is in doubt. Babur is constantly being pressured to leave Pakistan. Many former players have also advised Babar to give up the captaincy and focus only on batting. However, Babar is in no mood to resign as captain just yet. He has clearly informed his teammates about his decision. Pakistan have won just four out of eight matches in the tournament and are fifth in the points table.
According to a DBTV Sports report, sources said, “Babar Azam has told his teammates that he will not give up the captaincy himself. However, he will step down if the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) removes him from the captaincy. According to reports, the PCB is pressuring Babar to resign as captain but he is adamant. Let us tell you that so far Babar has not been able to show anything special with the bat in the World Cup. He has been targeted by critics for scoring runs at a slow pace. He has added a total of 282 runs in 8 matches at a strike rate of 82.69.
On the other hand, the Pakistan team is almost out of the race for the semi-finals in the World Cup 2023. Pakistan is scheduled to play its last league match against England on Saturday (November 11). Pakistan will reach the next round only if they manage to beat England by a big margin. It is worth mentioning that Babar has responded to those who criticized the Pakistan team and his captaincy. He says it is easy to give opinions on TV but captaincy has no impact on batting.
“I have been captaining my team for the last three years and I have never felt like this,” Babar said before the match against England. The only thing is that I can’t perform the way I should in the World Cup, that’s why people are saying that I’m under pressure. I don’t think I am under any pressure or feel different in any way because of the captaincy. I give my 100 percent contribution on the field while fielding and batting. I think how I should score runs and help my team win.
