Wicketkeeper batsman Ashikur Rahman Shibli’s brilliant century helped Bangladesh beat United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 195 runs to win the Under-19 Asia Cup on Sunday. This is Ashiqur Rahman’s second century in five matches of the tournament. Opening the innings, Ashiqur Rahman scored 129 runs off 149 balls which included 12 fours and 1 six.
Along with this, Bangladesh scored 282 runs for eight wickets after being invited to bat. In reply, UAE were bowled out for 87 runs in 24.5 overs and Bangladesh won the eight-nation tournament.
The trio of left-arm fast bowler Maroof Mridha (three wickets for 29 runs), Iqbal Hussain Imon (two wickets for 15 runs) and Rohanat Dollah Borson (three wickets for 26 runs) wreaked havoc as UAE scored 61 runs in 15 overs. Seven wickets fell in 6 runs.
Bangladesh off-spinner Sheikh Parvez Jibon (two wickets for seven runs) again finished the match with his tight bowling. Dhruv Parashar, number four for UAE, scored an unbeaten 25 runs. After him Akshat Rai (11) was the second highest scorer, while two others could not even reach the figure.
Ashikure won Player of the Series
For Bangladesh, Ashikur scored 378 runs in five innings from five matches, making him both ‘Player of the Match’ and ‘Man of the Series’. Chaudhary Mohammad Rizwan (60 runs off 71 balls), Ariful Islam (50 runs off 40 balls) and captain Mahfuzur Rahman Rabi scored 21 runs off 11 balls and contributed significantly to Bangladesh’s innings.
