Washington DC. Vivek Ramaswamy, a contender for the US Republican presidential nomination, has been open about his ‘Hindu’ faith, stressing that it gives him freedom and that he sees this presidential campaign as a moral obligation. Inspires you to get started.
Speaking at ‘The Family Leader’ forum organized by The Daily Signal platform on Saturday, the Indian-American entrepreneur drew parallels between the teachings of Hinduism and Christianity while expressing his intention to promote shared values for the benefit of the next generation. .
Ramaswamy said, “My faith gives me freedom. My faith led me to this presidential campaign… I am a Hindu. I believe there is only one true God. I believe that God has put each of us here for a purpose. My faith teaches us that we have a duty, a moral duty, to realize that purpose. These are God’s instruments, working through us in different ways, but we are still the same, because God lives in each of us. This is the core of my faith.
Speaking about his upbringing, the Republican leader said values like family, marriage and respect for parents were instilled in him. Ramaswamy said, ‘I grew up in a traditional home. My parents taught me that family is the foundation. Respect your parents. Marriage is sacred. The only way is to have abstinence before marriage. Adultery is wrong. Marriage is between a man and a woman. Divorce isn’t just some choice you make… you get married before God and you make vows before God and your family.
The Ohio-based bio-tech entrepreneur also drew similarities between Hinduism and Christianity, saying that these are the ‘shared values’ of God, and he would stand for those shared values. He continued, ‘Can I be a President who can promote Christianity throughout the country? I can’t… I don’t think we should do that to an American president… but am I going to stand up for the values that those people share? Shall I promote them as an example set for generations to come? You are absolutely right, I would! Because it is my duty.
It may be noted that 38-year-old Vivek Ramaswamy is a native of Southwest Ohio. His mother was an elderly psychiatrist and his father worked as an engineer at General Electric. His parents went to America from Kerala.
Vivek Ramaswamy’s presidential campaign has drawn attention, and he has surged in the GOP primaries, though he still trails Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in terms of public support.
