Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday expressed confidence that the BJP will win 22 of the 25 seats in the north thanks to the development work done by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre. East in the Lok Sabha elections next year. Sarma also said that the benefits of various schemes being run for the benefit of women have reached a lower level. He claimed that “this did not happen during Congress rule.”

Addressing a two-day executive meeting of BJP’s Mahila Morcha, Sarma said, “The northeast you see today was not like this before 2014. There has been a transformation in the transport sector which you can see in states like Arunachal Pradesh.
“Some special events are happening in Manipur but still there is no dearth of things as we have National Highway connectivity to various places,” Sarma said on the concluding day of the meeting.
He was referring to caste violence in Manipur. More than 160 people have died and hundreds more have been left homeless in the violence since early May.
Sarma said that rural electrification work is underway on a large scale and educational institutions are opening in the region and the ‘north-east has joined the mainstream.’
He also said that the people of this region ‘no longer face caste discrimination like in other parts of the country.’
He said, “I can definitely say that we will win 22 out of 25 seats in the North-East. I was asked how I can say with such confidence when there is tension in Manipur.
The BJP leader said, “I can say this with confidence because the change is historic. We have been able to reach every house.
