Let us know what happened in the ethics committee meeting on November 2 that Mahua Moitra and opposition MPs created a ruckus? What is the truth of the allegations made by Committee Chairman Mahua:-
What happened on November 2nd?
TMC MP Mahua Moitra, who is accused of taking money and asking questions in Parliament, reached the office of Parliament’s Ethics Committee at 10:50 am on November 2. Abandoning the question, Mahua stormed out of the committee’s office after about four and a half hours. He accused the chairman of the committee of asking insulting questions.
What did the committee say in its report?
The committee has given step-by-step details of the entire chapter in its report, after which a different picture has emerged. According to sources, the heated argument started when the question-and-answer round began with Mahua Moitra, who presented her views for nearly 2 hours. According to sources, committee chairman Vinod Kumar Sonkar first asked questions related to what was said in the affidavit of businessman Darshan Hiranandani. Because Moitra is seriously accused of sharing his parliament account login id and password with Hirananda.

The committee asked these questions, on which Moitra got angry
Committee chairman Sonkar asked, “How many times did you speak to Hirananda after October 13?” Moitra replied- “I don’t need to tell the committee this.” Sonkar then asked, “Was the topic discussed?” “This goes without saying,” said Moitra.
The discussion increased on questions related to Hiranandani
According to sources, after some more questions related to Hiranandani, the discussion started to escalate. Sonkar asked if Moitra ever went to UAE to meet Darshan Hiranandani between 2019 and 2023? Regarding this, Moitra said that she had gone to Dubai three-four times, but not only to meet Hiranandani, but also on holidays.
Danish Ali and Girdhari Yadav also created a stir
Committee chairman Sonkar asked how many times she had visited any other country during the same period. Mahua Moitra, BSP MP Danish Ali and JDU MP Girdhari Yadav got angry on this question. Moitra asked under what rule Sonkar was asking these questions. Danish Ali said that this question has no meaning. While Girdhari Yadav and Moitra said that they came to Sonkar with wrong questions and scripts.
Danish Ali was the first to use the word ‘chirharan’.
After this question Mahua Moitra threatened to walk out and then Danish Ali intervened. Danish Ali used the analogy of a woman ‘disrobing’ on Sonkar. On this, BJP MP Sunita Duggal strongly objected to Danish Ali’s choice of words. Duggal said- “Let the chairman ask the question, even if Moitra doesn’t answer.”
Danish Ali demanded to end the meeting
At this Danish Ali ended the meeting and said he would call later. But Moitra said she has no time and will not come again. In the heat of the moment, Moitra again admitted that she had shared her log-in ID and password. Arguing in his defence, he said that he had already said that since 2019, Hirananda’s office staff was typing his questions. Moitra claimed that it was not unauthorized, as the OTP came on her phone itself. On the question of taking money, Moitra asks if there is any proof of this.
Moitra was given three options
However, BJP MP Rajdeep Roy, a member of the committee, told NDTV that Moitra was given three options to respond. First- Moitra can answer if she wants. Second – don’t answer if you want. Third- Send your written reply to the committee within 24 hours. But instead of these three options, Moitra chose a fourth option – creating a ruckus.
Rajdeep Roy said, “Mahua Moitra created a ruckus in front of the committee and later in the media. Her motive for doing so was to avoid answering questions. She had already come up with the idea of ruckus. Apparently the opposition MPs “supported her in this.”
