Campaigning for Mizoram assembly election is over, voting will be held tomorrow

Mizoram The campaigning for the November 7 assembly elections in Mizoram ended at 4 pm on Sunday and no law and order problems were reported during the entire month-long period. Additional Chief Electoral Officer L Lianzala gave this information. He said that there will be strict ban on any kind of election campaigning, public meetings, press conferences, giving interviews and discussions in the media by the political parties until the polls are over.

He said that out of 1,276 polling stations in the state, 149 are remote polling stations, while around 30 polling stations near inter-state and international borders have been declared vulnerable.

Security has been tightened across the state and at international borders as the 510-km-long international border with Myanmar and the 318-km-long international border with Bangladesh remain open, a police official said.

At least 3,000 police personnel and 5,400 personnel of the Central Armed Police Forces have been deployed for the polls, the official said.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Road Transport and National Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, Union Ministers Sarbanand Sonowal and Kiren Rijiju campaigned in support of BJP candidates. BJP state president Wanlalhamuaka said the party will win six to eight seats.

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Jairam Ramesh and Shashi Tharoor campaigned in support of their party’s candidates.

After voting for the 40-member Mizoram assembly on November 7, the counting of votes will take place on December 3.

The state has over 8.57 lakh voters, of which 4,39,026 are women. A total of 174 candidates are in the fray.
