The team captained by Babar could not even reach the semi-finals of the World Cup. Babar failed in both departments as a captain and a batsman. Babar Azam announced his resignation through social media. He said that as a player he will continue to serve the Pakistan team. Babar took charge of the Pakistan team in 2019. He is leaving the captaincy after 4 years. Under his captaincy, the Pakistani team became number one in ODIs. He was the number one batsman in ODIs but recently Shubman Gill took away the top spot from him.
