The real name of ‘Silk Smitha’ of films was Vijayalakshmi. He was born on 2 December 1960 in a village in Andhra Pradesh. The childhood of the actress was spent in financial hardship. Her family got her married off at a very young age due to the family’s poor financial condition, but after marriage, the actress’ life went from bad to worse.

Career sank due to alcoholism
Silk Smita started her career with small roles in films, but gradually became a big name in the South film industry. Silk Smitha acted in approximately four hundred and fifty (450) films in her 17-year career. Media reports claimed that the actress started taking alcohol due to loneliness and gradually got addicted to alcohol to such an extent that it ruined her career as well.

Silk Smita was so overwhelmed by a sinking career and loneliness that she lost the will to live and then on 23 September 1996, the actress was found dead in her home. However, till today the police could not solve the mystery of his suicide.
