Happy Children’s Day to you all. Today is 14th November and the birthday of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of the country. Pandit Nehru, the outstanding writer, historian and creator of modern India, had great affection and love for children, hence his birth anniversary is celebrated as Children’s Day. Children used to call Nehruji as Chacha Nehru. Pandit Nehru used to say that children are the builders of the nation. Children are like the buds of a garden and should be nurtured with care and love, as they are the future of the country and the citizens of tomorrow.
On Nehruji’s birth anniversary, he is remembered and paid tribute to his great deeds, but also discusses various issues related to children. On Children’s Day, awareness is spread about the rights of children and the welfare schemes created for them. Along with playing a leading role in the freedom struggle, India will always remember the role Pandit Nehru played in the reconstruction of India, establishing and strengthening democracy there. Friends, when India became independent and partitioned, rebuilding the country was not an easy task but the five year plans made by Panditji with his vision and understanding yielded great results. The country started progressing on the path of development. Nehruji’s greatest work as a politician was to develop democratic values in the Indian political system and establish democracy in India. Today India is said to be the largest democracy in the world. He had a strong hold on the foreign policy front as well.
On Children’s Day we should think that even after so many years of independence, children are still falling prey to child labor and sexual exploitation. His childhood is being ruined. A large number of children are becoming victims of malnutrition. Although the government has made many schemes for children like mid-day meals, free education, scholarships, but still there is a lot of work to be done in this direction. Children have to be rescued from problems like child trafficking, sexual abuse, child marriage, child labour, poor health and education, malnutrition. Children are the future of this country, tomorrow. It has to be groomed.
