According to belief, on Kartak Krishna Chaturdashi, Lord Krishna killed the demon Narakasura on Choti Diwali, hence Lord Sri Krishna is worshiped on Choti Diwali. You know about Big Diwali that on this day Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya after completing his exile and because of the darkness everywhere in the city of Ayodhya, the people of Ayodhya welcomed Lord Rama, Mother Sita and Lakshmana by lighting lamps. But according to the scriptures, the big Diwali is celebrated on the day of Kartak Amavasya because on this day Goddess Lakshmi comes to earth at night and so people welcome her by lighting lamps and performing ritual worship of Goddess Lakshmi.
