New Delhi. 19-year-old American tennis player Coco Goff defeated Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus to win the US Open women’s singles title on Saturday. This is Goff’s first Grand Slam title. In the match played at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, Goff came back strongly from behind to win the final 2–6, 6–3, 6–2 in a match that lasted 2 hours and 6 minutes. Earlier in July, Goff was eliminated from Wimbledon after losing in the first round. However, he bounced back with titles in Washington and Cincinnati and now has the biggest win of his career after a crushing defeat at the French Open last year. She became the first American player to win the tournament since 2017. This achievement was done by Solan Stephen in 2017.

Florida’s Coco Goff is the first American teenager to win a major tennis tournament in the country since Serena Williams in 1999. At 15, Gough became the youngest qualifier in Wimbledon history and reached the fourth round on her Grand Slam debut in 2019. She reached the final of the French Open last year but did not win the title. She was eliminated in the first round of Wimbledon in July this year. Since then, they have won 18 of 19 championships under the new coaching duo of Brad Gilbert and Pere Riba.

Coco Goff took aim at her critics after winning the US Open title. “Thank you to those who don’t believe me,” Goff said. Like a month ago, I won the (Tour) title and people said I will stay there. “Two weeks ago I won another title and people were saying it would be Goff’s biggest title and now three weeks later, I’m carrying this trophy.”
