Respected principal, teachers and my dear friends. Happy Constitution Day to all of you. Today we are all gathered here to celebrate Constitution Day. The Constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly of the country on 26 November 1949. This is the day when the Constitution was drafted.

26 November Constitution Day is a very proud day for every Indian citizen. No country can run without a constitution. It is the constitution that unites India’s 140 crore population of different religions and castes as one country. The constitution itself contains the principles of the country and the methods of running it.

Friends! It is the constitution that makes us feel as free citizens of a free country. While the fundamental rights given by the constitution act as our shield and give us our rights, the fundamental duties given in it also remind us of our responsibilities. It is also important to know that November 26 is also celebrated as National Law Day in the country.

When our country became independent on 15 August 1947, we had no constitution of our own. A country cannot be run without a constitution, so the Constituent Assembly was formed to frame it. Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad etc. were prominent members of this meeting. Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar was the Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee, hence he is also called the creator of the Constitution. It took 2 years, 11 months and 18 days to draft the constitution. It was completed and adopted on November 26, 1949. After this, the Constitution came into force on January 26, 1950.

In the year 2015, the Government of India decided to celebrate November 26 as ‘Constitution Day’. 2015 was a special year because that year the creator of the constitution Dr. The 125th birth anniversary of Bhimrao Ambedkar was being celebrated. Since then, the day is celebrated every year to promote a sense of respect among citizens for constitutional values.

The Indian Constitution is the longest written constitution in the world. Many of its parts are taken from the constitutions of the United Kingdom, America, Germany, Ireland, Australia, Canada and Japan. It describes the basic rights, duties of the citizens of the country, role of the government, powers of the Prime Minister, President, Governor and Chief Minister. What is the work of legislature, executive and judiciary, what is their role in running the country, all these things are mentioned in the constitution.

On this Constitution Day we should take a lifelong pledge to obey our fundamental duties and the laws of the country. Being a good and responsible citizen of the country will not only fulfill the purpose of the constitution but also build the nation of the dream of the framers of the constitution. Today, the standard of living of a large section of the country is worse than in poor African countries. They do not have access to basic facilities like food, clothing, education and health. They have to become victims of exploitation. Friends, today we should also resolve to give economic and social justice to such people. The objective of the Constitution will be fulfilled only by reducing the deep chasm of economic inequality.

Thank you all for listening to my thoughts on this country’s greatest book. Glory to India.
