Doordarshan’s superhit serial…in which the superstar did the work of counting crows, a role of a few minutes changed the fate.

Mumbai: Many programs that were shown on Doordarshan in the 80s and 90s are still alive in people’s minds and the special thing is that no one has been able to replace them even today. Since then, hundreds of TV serial shows have been aired on many channels in the country. But people who grew up watching serials in 80s and 90s have not been able to replace those serials till date. Serials like Shaktimaan, Circus, Fauji were loved by the audience and are still loved today. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was also seen in the lead role in Fauji. Shah Rukh Khan shared a story about this serial.

With this serial, his luck took such a turn that in no time his character changed from a side role to a lead role. Shah Rukh Khan’s innocence and performance in this serial impressed the audience so much that he became a shining star of the country. When Shah Rukh Khan was initially offered this serial in Fauji, he had to take on a task he never imagined.

Shah Rukh Khan was only to be counted as crows in the serial. He went and came after counting crows when the actor who played the role of a colonel in the serial told him to come by counting crows. Then when asked how many crows there are, Shahrukh answered four. Shah Rukh Khan himself mentioned his role in Fauji in an interview and also said that while doing this serial, he had only one question in his mind that when family members ask what is your job in Dharvik, what will he say? Family members will respond.

While this question was flashing in Shahrukh’s mind, fate was writing a different story for him. The story of making him the king of Bollywood. While he was searching for an answer to the question of what he would do to his family members, he got an opportunity which he never expected to get. Colonel Raj Kumar Kapur offered him a chance to play a lead role in Fauji. In fact, the Colonel’s son-in-law was familiar with Shah Rukh Khan and it was because of him that Shah Rukh got the role.

Indeed, earlier the Colonel’s son also handled the camera work and played the lead role of Abhimanyu Rai in the serial. But, he was finding it very difficult to handle both jobs simultaneously. Due to difficulties, he shared this with his father and then together they selected Shah Rukh for the lead role. Along with this, Doordarshan’s serial Fauji and Shah Rukh Khan both became super hits.
