After the crushing defeat against South Africa in Centurion, the ICC has given India a double whammy. India has been penalized due to slow over rate. Rohit Sharma’s team have been deducted two crucial ICC World Test Championship points for bowling two overs short against South Africa, while the players have also been fined 10% of their match fees. Chris Broad of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees gave the punishment to India after falling two overs short of the target.

According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 5% of their match fee for each over they fail to bowl in the allotted time.

In the Centurion Test against South Africa, India lost by an innings and 32 runs. This is Team India’s biggest ever defeat on South African soil. Batting first, India scored 245 runs on the back of KL Rahul’s century, against which the hosts posted 408 runs on the back of Dean Elgar’s innings of 186 runs. India were restricted to 131 runs in the second innings. Except for Virat Kohli, all the batsmen proved to be failures.
