Engineers Day 2023: Today the country is celebrating Engineers Day. Development and construction of any country is impossible without engineers. Every year India celebrates 15th September as Engineers Day. Today is a day to salute the efforts made by engineers in nation building. The day is dedicated to the country’s greatest engineer and Bharat Ratna awardee Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. M Visweswaraya contributed greatly to nation building, hence his birthday, September 15, is celebrated as Engineers’ Day in the country. M Visvesvaraya was an expert in flood disaster management and irrigation techniques. A civil engineer, Visvesvaraya played an important role in the construction of dams, reservoirs and hydropower projects of modern India. The government honored him with the Bharat Ratna in the year 1955.
This day is a day to salute the hard work and dedication of all engineers of the country who have contributed to the development of the country. Due to the tireless efforts of these engineers, there has been a great change in people’s lives. Engineers of the country have made life easier for common people with their inventions.
Who was Visvesvaraya?
Visvesvaraya was also known as Sir MV in the country. Bharat Ratna awardee M Visvesvaraya was born on 15 September 1861 in Kakkaballapur taluka of Kolar district of Mysore, Karnataka in a Telugu family. Visvesvaraya’s father was Srinivasa Shastri, a Sanskrit scholar and doctor of Ayurveda.
After receiving a degree in civil engineering from the Science College, Poona in 1883, Visvesvaraya was immediately appointed to the post of assistant engineer. Govt job was found He was the 19th Dewan of Mysore and served from 1912 to 1918. He is called the father of modern Mysore because of his work in Mysore. He established many factories and educational institutions in collaboration with the Mysore government. He contributed greatly to the construction of Krishnaraj Sagar Dam in Mandya district. He patented and installed an irrigation system with water floodgates in the Khadakwasala reservoir near Pune. In 1917, Visvesvaraya founded the Government Engineering College in Karnataka, now known as the University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering. He received the Bharat Ratna Award in 1955. Dr. Mokshagundam is also called Bhagirath of Karnataka. Dr. Mokshagundam died in 1962 at the age of 102.
