A massive fire broke out in an apartment block in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi at midnight local time on Wednesday, September 13. About 56 people have died in this accident. Children are also among the dead. Firefighters have rescued around 70 people. About 150 people lived in this building. According to the New York Times, the cause of the fire has not yet been revealed.

Footage of the accident on a Vietnamese news channel showed firefighters with water hoses busy dousing the flames in the building.
Plumes of smoke were seen billowing from the building after the fire broke out late Wednesday night. The building’s small balconies were surrounded by iron, the apartment block had only one exit and no emergency door, AFP reports.
Fire incidents in Vietnam in recent years
An eyewitness present at the scene said that many people were shouting for help after the fire broke out. A woman living near the block told AFP at the scene that the apartment was completely sealed off, leaving people unable to escape.
Death toll in recent years
A year ago in Vietnam, 32 people died in a fire at a three-story karaoke bar in a business center in Ho Chi Minh City. At least 17 people were also injured in this fire. After the incident, the bar owner was arrested for violating the rules. Also in 2018, 13 people died in a fire in an apartment complex in Ho Chin Minh City. Earlier in 2016, 13 people died in a fire at a karaoke building in Hanoi.
