Former India opener Gautam Gambhir has questioned the Indian team selected for the third T20 match against South Africa. Gambhir was surprised by Ravi Bishnoi not getting a place in the playing XI during the T20 series. Ravi Bishnoi was named Player of the Series in the T20 series against Australia last month. Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian team enters the third T20I against South Africa without any changes.
India announced a 17-member squad for the three-match T20 series against South Africa. However, the Indian team could not attempt the bench stretch as the first T20 match was called off due to rain. In the second T20 match, India chose Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja as the main spinners, who were returning after the break.
When Gambhir was asked before the match if there would be any changes in India’s playing XI. About this, Gautam Gambhir said on Star Sports Show that, maybe, yes definitely Bishnoi as a fast bowler. You have left-arm and right-arm spinners. This can be a good offensive attack. But I am surprised that they have landed without any change.
He continued, “Who is the best wicket-taker you have in the powerplay? This would have been your leg spinner. You can’t have a fast bowler against that kind of batting order and that too in a setting like Johannesburg. Surprised not to see Bishnoi playing. You shouldn’t be player of the series (laughs). This is the first criterion for exclusion.”
