New Delhi: The first ever Global Farmers Seminar was organized in India, bringing together farmers and scientists from over 60 countries. Even foreign scientists were amazed to see species developed and discovered by Indian farmers here. The insulin plant was planted here. Every fifth citizen of India is affected by diabetes. Arjun Mandal is not the only farmer to reach the Vaishnik Kisan Seminar. The Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights Protection Authority has invited 150 selected farmers from across the country to Delhi to meet agricultural scientists from 60 countries who are developing new crop varieties. Kishan Suman, a farmer from Kota, Rajasthan, has developed an evergreen mango variety that you can grow in pots and enjoy the taste of mangoes all year round.
Farmer Kishan Suman said that I have developed an evergreen mango variety, which is planted in pots. This plant can produce more than fifty kg of mangoes in a year. Let us tell you that the Plant Varieties Protection and Protection of Farmers Rights Act has been made in India. But many countries do not yet have such a law. Due to this, no company or country can now benefit from the species developed by such farmers. India advocated for making a global law for this.
Triloki Mohapatra, president of the Plant Diversity and Farmers’ Rights Authority, a Food and Agriculture Organization based in Rome, said. He said that if any program was organized, we organized this program. 150 farmers of our country came and contributed in this program. The conference discussed in detail the three rights of farmers such as conservation of biodiversity, right of farmers to develop new varieties and right of farmers to sow their seeds.
