World Cup 2023: Team India reaches Lucknow for match against England, Hardik Pandya not seen
According to Times of India news, Hardik has suffered a grade 1 ligament tear in his ankle. Due to which, after New Zealand, he may also miss the next matches against England and Sri Lanka.
A BCCI source told TOI, ‘A medical team led by Nitin Patel is monitoring him at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. But the injury appears to be more serious than first thought. He appears to have suffered a minor ligament injury which usually takes at least two weeks to heal. NCA will not release him until his injury is fixed. The medical team has told the team management that they hope he will be back on the field soon.
World Cup 2023 Semi-Final Scenario: Which teams are in danger of going out of World Cup 2023 due to Australia’s win?
The Indian team is in no rush to bring Pandya back to the team. This makes it clear that Hardik is unlikely to be available for the upcoming match against England. The Indian team reached Lucknow on Wednesday and its first practice session will be held on Thursday. India have next two matches against Sri Lanka and South Africa in the first week of November, in which Hardik will also have a hard time making a comeback.
Australia became the third team after India-New Zealand to do so at World Cup 2023, a remarkable record
The source further said, ‘The team is currently in a good position in the tournament. Instead of touring with the team, Hardik will stay at NCA for his rehabilitation. The current situation is that a decision will be taken next week regarding Hardik’s participation in the rest of the tournament. Their return will have to be carefully planned. His leaner foundation takes longer to recover than many other athletes who have more muscle mass. He will be ready to take the injection and play at the end of the tournament if needed. Anyway, if Hardik is not bowling in full form, he doesn’t really make that much of a difference to the team combination.
