Team India defeated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets to win the Asia Cup 2023 title on Sunday. A tremendous ‘Mian Jadu’ was seen in the final against Sri Lanka. Indian fast bowler Mohammad Siraj bowled 7 overs in the title match and took 6 wickets for 21 runs. He badly broke Sri Lanka’s back with four wickets in an over, from which the team could not recover and were bundled out for 50 in 15.2 overs. India achieved the target in 6.1 overs and captured the tournament trophy for the eighth time. Siraj was awarded the player of the match.
After 29-year-old Siraj’s strong performance, his nickname ‘Mian Magic’ is being talked about a lot. Many people wonder how Siraj got this name? In fact Siraj himself revealed about the name ‘Mian Magic’ in an interview. Siraj said that the name ‘Mian Magic’ was given to him by former South African cricketer AB de Villiers. Siraj and de Villiers have played together for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL. Born in Hyderabad, Siraj was called ‘Mian’ by his teammates in the early days of IPL. Siraj’s bowling impressed de Villiers so much that he started calling it ‘Mian Magic’.
Mohammad Siraj creates history, becomes fastest bowler to take 5 wickets, equals Shami
It is worth mentioning that Siraj made many records in the Asia Cup final. He has become India’s leading fast bowler in ODI finals. This is the second best performance by an Indian bowler in an ODI final. Former spinner Anil Kumble took six wickets for 12 runs in 1993. Siraj became the first Indian bowler to take four wickets in an over in ODI cricket. He is the second bowler after Ashish Nehra to take 6 wickets against Sri Lanka.
Siraj said after the final, “We get what we have in luck.” Today was my luck. The last time I did that was against Sri Lanka in Trivandrum too. I took four wickets in the beginning but couldn’t take the fifth wicket.” In white-ball cricket I always focus on swinging the ball but in the last few matches I didn’t get much swing. But today the ball was swinging and I took more wickets with the out-swinger. I was getting so much swing on this wicket that I encouraged the batsmen to get on the front foot and drive them.
