That is, how is it decided in which state the officers will serve? Let’s know about it in detail.
First of all, let us tell you that officers are allotted posts based on their preferences and available vacancies in their chosen state. When a candidate clears the UPSC exam with a good rank, he/she has to go to Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) for foundation course. This course is of three months duration. Here, before starting their training, officers are asked about their preferences regarding cadre allocation, naming the states where they want to be posted in future. After completion of training, IAS, IPS and IFS officers are allotted their cadre.
Where can I fill cadre information?
While filling the Detailed Application Form (DAF), candidates are asked about their cadre preferences in case of selection. What we mean by priority here is that candidates name the states where they want to serve after being selected. Let us tell you that they have to give these names in descending order. Cadres are then allotted based on their preferences and available vacancies.
