Michael Holding came forward in support of Khawaja
That said, there seems to be a lack of ethics in the decision

New Delhi. Pakistani-born Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja, who faced the wrath of cricket’s apex body ICC for speaking out in favor of Palestine in the Gaza attack case, has received support from Michael Holding. West Indies veteran fast bowler Holding has endorsed the ICC. But questions have arisen. Let us tell you that to draw the world’s attention to the issue of Palestine, Khawaja protested against Pakistan by wearing a black armband in the Perth Test, for which the ICC reprimanded him.

Holding, who was a key member of West Indies’ famous fast bowling quartet, said the ICC’s reaction showed a clear lack of ethics as an organization. Speaking to ‘The Weekend Australian’, Holding said, ‘I think it shows the lack of morale on the West Indies team. Issue of Usman Khawaja. Looking at it, I can’t say I’m surprised by the ICC’s stance. I would certainly be surprised if most other organizations show some degree of consistency and uniformity in their attitude and behavior on such issues. Once again they (ICC) as an organization have shown hypocrisy (double standards) and lack of moral values.

Controversy arose in the matter when Khawaja was accused of saying ‘all lives are equal’. ‘And freedom is one. Human Rights’, Khawaja was banned from entering the match wearing shoes with messages reading ‘Freedom is a Human Right’, as doing so would be a violation of the ICC’s clothing and equipment rules. Khawaja later got black. Wearing a bandage on his arm, he expressed his opposition to Israel’s actions in Gaza.
