Ludhiana (Punjab): Minutes before a train was due to pass in Ludhiana, an allegedly drunken driver abandoned his truck on the railway track and fled. The officials gave this information. He said that on getting this information, the train driver slowed down the speed and stopped the train a few meters before the truck.

Investigating officer of Government Railway Police Jasveer Singh said that on Friday night, the truck driver drove his vehicle on the main Ludhiana-Delhi railway track and started from Sherpur towards Ludhiana railway station, but the truck got stuck in the railway track. Singh said the driver ran away leaving the truck there but local people saw the truck standing on the track and informed the railway administration in time.
The truck was later removed from the railway tracks and the truck driver was arrested, police said. He said rail traffic was blocked for a while but was restored after an hour. According to the police, a medical examination confirmed that the truck driver was drunk.
