In Modi 3.0, these 7 women got a chance, Nirmala Sitharaman and Annapurna Devi became cabinet ministers.

New Delhi:

A total of seven women have been included in the new Union Council of Ministers, two of whom have been made cabinet ministers. At the same time, there were a total of 10 women ministers in the previous Council of Ministers which was dissolved on June 5. Former Union Minister Smriti Irani, Minister of State Dr. Bharti Pawar, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, Darshana Jardosh, Meenakshi Lekhi and Pratima Bhowmik did not get a place in the Council of Ministers of the 18th Lok Sabha.

Nirmala Sitharaman, BJP MPs Annapurna Devi, Shobha Karandlaje, Raksha Khadse, Savitri Thakur and Nimuben Bambhania and Apna Dal MP Anupriya Patel have been inducted into the new Council of Ministers. Sitharaman and Annapurna have been made Cabinet Ministers, while the rest have been sworn in as Ministers of State.

Irani, Pawar and Jyoti lost their incumbent seats of Amethi, Dandori and Fatehpur respectively in the Lok Sabha elections. At the same time, BJP has not given tickets to Jardosh, Lekhi and Bhowmik. 74 women candidates won in the general elections and this number is slightly lower than the 78 women candidates elected in 2019. Narendra Modi was sworn in as the Prime Minister on Sunday evening and 71 members of his Council of Ministers took oath.

Ahead of the swearing-in ceremony, Narendra Modi called his potential ministers at the PM residence and gave important guidelines regarding their work. This is a historic moment for Narendra Modi, as he has become the Prime Minister for the third time in a row. Before this, only Jawaharlal Nehru became Prime Minister three times. Along with Narendra Modi, the leaders of BJP’s allied parties have also taken oath as ministers. Union Ministers took oath first, followed by Minister of State (Independent Charge) and then Minister of State. Since the BJP did not get an absolute majority in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the importance of allies has also increased significantly. This time BJP has got 240 seats. At the same time, TDP won 16 seats and JDU 12 seats.
