On the second day of the first Test match being played between India and South Africa, the former coach of the Indian team Ravi Shastri has questioned India’s strategy. Ravi Shastri, during the commentary, expressed his displeasure over Rohit Sharma’s decision to start the session with the popular Krishna and Shardul Thakur in the second session. According to Shastri, India made a mistake by not bowling to veteran bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Siraj. Early in the second session, Dean Elgar and Tony Georgie hit several fours off the famous Krishna and Shardul Thakur overs.
Former coach Ravi Shastri said, “Against any batting onslaught, these two (Shardul and Prishan) would have been the last option to open after lunch. I think India made a big mistake in the selection of bowlers after lunch, which gave the South African batsmen a chance to make progress. I think this was a big mistake. I think it was a big mistake strategically.
He continued, “When I was the coach, we discussed the matter many times and mostly we decided to go with the best two bowlers at the start of the season.”
