Regular captain Temba Bavuma suffered an injury on the first day of the Centurion Test, which ruled him out of the entire match. In this Test match, the host team won by an innings and 32 runs, ending India’s dream of winning the Test series on South African soil this year as well.
South Africa in Centurion and Australia in Mumbai gave fans a double shock.
According to the ICC, Cricket South Africa has confirmed that Temba Bavuma is out of the series. Bavuma suffered an injury while fielding on the first day of the Test match and as a result, did not play any further part in the match after a scan revealed a hamstring strain.
Dean Elgar will captain the team in the final match of his international career in Bavuma’s absence. Zubair Hamza will replace Bavuma in the squad for the final Test in Cape Town from January 3 in the new year.

Elgar’s face is no stranger to captaincy. Under his leadership, the African team has recorded several impressive wins, including 2-1 against India in 2022-23. South Africa lost the first match of the series to clinch the series.
Even after two years, Elgar continues to be a hindrance to India’s victory. In the Centurion Test, he scored a single-handed 185 against India’s 245 in the first innings. This is the second highest score of his Test career. Based on his innings, the African team could score 408 runs.
