“No specific information has been shared (with us) by Canada in this matter,” Bagchi said while talking to the media. We are ready to look into any specific information (on the matter) given to us.” This comes after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on June 18 alleged the ‘possible’ involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Nigeriens in Canada. Relations between India and Canada have been strained.
India on Tuesday dismissed the allegations as ‘absurd’ and ‘motivated’ (by vested interests). In this case, after Canada expelled an Indian official, India also expelled a senior Canadian diplomat.
Bagchi said, “We are in touch with our colleagues and friends on various issues including this issue. We are discussing this. We have expressed our position on how we see it.” He was asked if India has informed its close partners and friends about its diplomatic dispute with Canada.
It is reported that India has approached other countries including Australia, Britain and the US and expressed its concern over the growing activities of anti-India elements in Canada. Sources also said that India has communicated its overall position on the diplomatic row with Canada to its key friends and partners.
Asked about Canada’s concerns about the security of its mission in India amid rising diplomatic tensions, Bagchi said India takes its responsibilities very seriously. He said, “We will certainly provide full security to foreign diplomats in India. We also expect the Canadian authorities to show the same sensitivity towards our diplomats in Canada.
