India on Friday invited the Global South to join the recently launched Global Bio-Fuel Alliance. India said it was willing to share its expertise with developing and least developed countries. A global alliance to promote biofuels was launched at the G-20 group of leaders meeting in September with the aim of reducing emissions in the transport and industrial sectors.

The global biofuel alliance also includes top producers Brazil and the United States. The alliance will help create a global market for biofuel trade.
At the second ‘Voice of Global South Summit’, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that India has achieved the target of blending 10 per cent ethanol in petrol by May, 2022, five months ahead of the deadline and the deadline for blending 20 per cent. Converting biomass into fuel has helped the world’s third-largest energy consumer reduce emissions while providing an additional source of income for farmers.
