United Nations: In a veiled attack on China, India said the international community should work on transparent and fair credit and be wary of the dangers of unsecured credit that leads to vicious debt traps.
Ambassador of India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations R Madhusudhan said in an open debate on ‘Maintaining International Peace and Security: Promoting Sustainable Peace through Common Development’ at the United Nations Security Council on Monday that development is remote if resource scarcity continues. Swapn therefore, India worked towards reforms of international financial institutions at various fora, including the current presidency of the G20.

The meeting of the 15-member committee of the United Nations Security Council was held under the chairmanship of China this month. Madhusudan further said that the concept paper of the meeting suggests, ‘We should work towards transparent and equitable credit and be alert to the dangers of unsustainable credit which leads to a vicious cycle of debt trap.’
He said that a comprehensive approach to international security should include the interdependence of the three pillars of the UN system – peace and security, development and human rights. Madhusudan said, ‘Security is indeed multidimensional, but involvement of the Security Council in every aspect, including those mandated by other UN bodies, may not be appropriate.’
