New Delhi. The Indian cricket team has performed very well in the ICC ODI World Cup so far. Team India secured a place in the semi-finals by winning 7 matches in a row. Continuing its winning campaign in the tournament, India are now set for the semi-finals after winning all 9 league matches. Here too, equations are emerging according to which a team can make it to the final without even playing a match.
The tournament has so far been unmatched for Team India as hosts. The Indian team, which started the World Cup with a win against Australia, has not lost a single match so far. India is the only team to have 100 percent victory in this tournament. Team India defeated the three teams of South Africa, Australia and New Zealand who reached the semi-finals in the league stage. Now they have to face the Kiwi team in the semi-finals.
How can India reach the final without playing?
Actually the match between India and New Zealand is to be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. ICC has kept one day in reserve in case of rain in this match. This means that if the match is not held on Wednesday, it can be completed on Thursday. What if the match cannot be played due to rain on both the days? The answer to this question is found in the ICC Rules.
As per the rules, the team which tops the points table in the league stage reaches the final without playing a team. India have won all their 9 league matches to clinch the top spot. The New Zealand team was in fourth place. In such a situation, according to the equations that are emerging, India will reach the final while New Zealand will have to be eliminated.
