Injured teenager dies, comatose in suspicious incident in Tehran Metro

Dubai. An injured Iranian teenager has died in a suspicious incident just minutes after boarding the Tehran metro without wearing a hijab a few weeks ago. Iran’s state media gave this information on Saturday.

Armita Gerwand died in Tehran after several weeks in a coma. About a year before this incident, a girl named Mahsa Amini died in the custody of the Iranian police. Amini’s death was followed by widespread protests across the country. Amin was detained by the morality police on charges of improperly wearing hijab.

Possibility of opposition
The news of Gerwand’s injury on October 1 and now his death is likely to lead to mass protests again in the country. In particular, women in Tehran and elsewhere defy the law on wearing the hijab, a sign of their dissatisfaction with the country’s theocracy. Iran’s state news agency IRNA reported Gerwand’s death without mentioning the widespread unrest over the hijab law.

What happened after boarding the train?
The question remains as to what happened in the seconds after Gerwand boarded the train. Her parents told state media that their daughter’s injuries were caused by a blood pressure problem, a fall, or possibly both. At the same time, activists have alleged that Gerwand may have been pushed or assaulted for not wearing a hijab. He demanded the United Nations to conduct an independent investigation into the matter.

Collapsed due to blood pressure
“According to the official information provided by Armita Gerwand’s doctors, she collapsed due to a sudden drop in blood pressure and suffered a brain injury,” IRNN said. After which he suffered constant seizures, lack of oxygen to the brain and swelling.
