Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will return to power in 2024 with a good majority. He said on Monday that global investors need not panic. The government is committed to implementing systemic reforms to accelerate economic growth.

Participating in an online discussion organized by the ‘India Global Forum’, the finance minister said, “Investors need not be at all nervous about the results of the April-May 2024 general elections. They should wait with hope. “It is normal and I can understand it. But with me many people are watching the Indian economy, watching the political environment, watching the ground level realities. The situation today is that Prime Minister Modi is coming back and has a good majority. Coming along.”
Regarding climate action, the finance minister said that India is moving in this direction with its own money. He described the transition from fossil fuels to clean energy as a challenge to finance for emerging and developing economies.
When asked about the impact of the ongoing conflict in Israel and Palestine on the India-West Asia-Europe Connectivity Corridor (IMEC), Sitharaman said it was a long-term project and would not depend on any single major event. The construction of the proposed corridor was signed during the 18th G-20 Summit held in New Delhi in September. It is a multi-dimensional economic corridor that includes several networks of ships, rail and road.
