Razi Mousavi was the most senior general of the Kurdish forces.
Tehran, Iran:
A senior general of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard was killed in an Israeli strike in Syria on Monday. Tehran has vowed to make Israel “pay for this crime”. According to AFP, Iranian media also reported the death of Razi Mousavi, describing him as one of the most experienced advisers to Kurdish forces, the foreign arm of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The President of Iran said this
There was no immediate comment from Israel. However, he has repeatedly said that he will not allow Iran to increase its presence in Syria. Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi expressed grief over Mousavi’s death, saying that Israel will surely pay the price for this crime. “The general was killed a few hours ago during an attack by the Zionist regime in the Zinabiyyah district in the suburbs of Damascus,” the official news agency IRNA reported, using a different name for Sayyida Zeinab, in the south of the Syrian capital.
was the most senior general of the Kurdish forces
“Mousavi was active in providing logistical support to the resistance in Syria,” IRNA said, referring to groups backed by Tehran and organized against Israel. The IRGC said in a statement that Mousavi was killed in a “missile attack” and vowed to avenge his death. The statement said Mousavi was an ally of Iran’s respected Kurdish commander General Qasem Soleimani, who was killed in a 2020 US drone strike in Baghdad. Next week, Iran will mark the fourth anniversary of Soleimani’s assassination, and Mousavi was the most senior Kurdish forces general killed since then.
That’s how I found out
Iranian state TV said Mousavi had been hit by “three missiles” and broadcast footage of smoke billowing from the area of the strike. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based monitor, reported Israeli strikes on positions in the Sayyida Zainab area used by Iranian groups and Lebanon’s powerful Tehran-linked Hezbollah. Residents reported hearing loud explosions and seeing plumes of smoke billowing from fields in the area. Since the Syrian civil war began in 2011, Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes against its northern neighbor. Mainly Iranian-backed forces and Hezbollah fighters, as well as Syrian army posts, have been targeted.
That is why he is attacking
On December 2, the IRGC accused Israel of killing two of its members in Syria. The IRGC said the two were on an advisory mission, without giving further details. Israel rarely comments on reported attacks in Syria. But since an October 7 attack by the Palestinian group sparked a war against Iran-backed Hamas, attacks there have intensified, particularly against Hezbollah.
